I wonder if there are any mechanical changes for the detuning or if it can be overridden by ECU changes. If figure if it’s just software then someone there will be able to get around it.

My guess would be software, but who knows. That market is so large it may justify using different components for cost cutting (smaller turbo, IC, etc...)

Like 50% of the newer Porsches in my city are driven by wealthy international students for this exact reason. “But dad, this car would cost $150,000 back home, so it’s like we are saving money by buying it for $80,000.”
